Short Bio

I'm a Professor in the Vancouver School of Economics at UBC and a Faculty Research Fellow at the NBER. My research is in macroeconomics and labour economics, with work on automation and the decline of middle-class jobs, recessions and jobless recoveries, and youth unemployment. I was the first recipient of the Bank of Canada Governor's Award, and I have served as a visiting scholar or consultant with the Federal Reserve Banks of Chicago, Minneapolis, and St Louis, the Reserve Bank of Australia, and the Bank of Canada.
